A Different Choice

Shining a light on Through These Doors’ Certified Batterers Intervention Program, A Different Choice.

A Different Choice provides weekly educational classes where men who batter are given the opportunity to examine and change the beliefs they hold that allow them to be violent or controlling of their partners.

Maine’s certified batterer’s programs are based on the belief that a strong, consistent criminal justice system coupled with men’s nonviolence classes are important for addressing domestic violence in a community. The criminal justice system is the first step in holding men who batter accountable. A Different Choice classes continue the accountability.

Meanwhile, it offers the opportunity for men who batter to examine and change beliefs they hold that allow them to be violent or controlling of their partners. ADC’s weekly groups for men who batter are facilitated by trained educators using the Duluth Model as its curriculum. TTD’s CBIP is certified by the Maine Department of Corrections.

TTD is so grateful for dedicated CBIP staff who approach our priority of victim safety through the lens of offender accountability.
