October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) was launched nationwide in October 1987 as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness for those issues. Over the past 30+ years, much progress has been made to support domestic violence victims and survivors, to hold abusers accountable, and to create and update legislation to further those goals.” National Coalition to End Domestic Violence

At Through These Doors each October we hold events and activities, share outreach materials, and create opportunities for friends and allies to raise awareness about domestic violence in Cumberland County, and find way to help. At TTD, our mission is to work in collaboration with local partners and all affected by abuse to create innovative responses and mobilize our community to promote safety and challenge systems of oppression and violence. We envision a world where all people are safe, respected, and supported in their relationships and communities, where everyone’s basic needs are met and they are able to lead whole, fulfilling lives.

Join us in October as we mobilize Cumberland County around the safety and well-being of people victimized and those who are surviving and thriving after experiencing domestic abuse. Join us as we hold accountable those who choose to commit acts of abuse and violence against others. See the Events section of this website for more information on events and activities in October!
